The challenge
The messengers people already use — Discord, Instagram, Telegram, SMS — receive message content as plaintext and can inspect it. Moving every contact to a new dedicated app is unrealistic friction, so the goal was to add strong encryption on top of the platforms conversations already flow through.
The solution
A client-side encryption companion for Android. Two people exchange public keys via QR codes or copyable text, verify fingerprints, and from then on encrypt each message on their own device before pasting the ciphertext into any messenger. The recipient copies it back into Cyphr and decrypts locally. No accounts, phone numbers, servers, or internet permission are involved.

Outcome

It is explicitly experimental and not independently audited — positioned as a privacy tool and experiment, not a replacement for established end-to-end encrypted messengers.
